Tonight when I eat my dinner,
May I be reminded of the last meal you shared with your disciples,
Just hours before Good Friday began.
Knowing that one of your own would betray you,
You still gathered with your followers,
Broke bread and ate one last supper.
You washed their feet, before you would wash away their sins with your blood,
And you shared your cup, the cup of the new covenant.
They could not have understood the significance of that meal.
Even now we might not either.
Help my weak faith and my misunderstanding, Lord.
Let me grow, feasting upon your word and sacrament.
You alone nourish my spirit.
Forgive me, forgive us all.
You did not deserve tomorrow.
Thank you for your sacrifice.
